The Crossroads Community has responded to the call to help those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Over 160 Relief Buckets will have been collected by this Sunday! These buckets will be transported next week to distribution sites in the South to be used in the recovery effort.
I have heard lots of stories of families and employees of businesses coming together to fill the buckets. Elaine Schollian, wrote in about her family coming on Labor Day: "Labor Day Monday we had a family cookout and decided to include a family project in our day... The making of "Cleaning Relief Buckets" to send down to Texas.
Gathered in the garage with buckets and lots of cleaning supplies, my 4 grandchildren (ages 6, 8, 15, 21) each filled a bucket with all the necessities for the clean-up. We had such fun doing this together and talking about how grateful we were to be able to help. In addition to supplies, each one of our buckets is filled with loving thoughts and prayers for those effected by this terrible storm Now that they are old enough to understand what's going on in Texas, they were all over it and happy to be able to help in their own little way."
A quote from John Wesley, "Prayer is Where the Action Is" describes the Schollian experience and all the other experiences that were had putting together the Relief Buckets and all of the other relief efforts playing out in Texas, Louisiana and Florida. Everyone coming together to help their neighbor.
Many people have expressed an interest in being a part of mission relief teams on the ground. As of now, UMCOR is only accepting volunteers who are trained and credentialed Early Response Teams. Once other volunteer teams are cleared to serve, we will be putting out the call to Crossroads community. Continue to check our website for information or contact Kathy MacKrell.
Over $2,500 has been donated to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) on behalf of the Crossroads community. Please consider donating to UMCOR, 100% of each gift reaches the Advance mission or ministry of your choice. As with any disaster, please continue to pray for all those affected directly or indirectly by Hurricane Harvey and Irma. Also pray for the first responders, disaster coordinators and the many volunteers.
