This Sunday we celebrate the Day of Pentecost which is the fiftieth and last day of the Easter Season. Pentecost is when the Church received the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2). Many see the day as the birthday of the Church.
The story of Jesus is highlighted from Advent until Pentecost. From Pentecost, the focus changes to the story of all who follow in the way of Jesus. We seek to live out our calling through discipleship as we fulfill the commission given to us by Jesus.
Even biblical writers had a hard time finding images and metaphors for the Holy Spirit. Fire and wind came to be used. One symbol the Church has used over the years to celebrate Pentecost is to wear the color red. In a sense we have moved from the ashes of Ash Wednesday to Pentecost’s fire, so red is the symbolic color.
We invite all who worship on Sunday to wear something red as a symbol of being God’s Pentecost people of love. Let's fill the sanctuary with a sea of red symbols!
We hope to see you online or in person this Sunday!
Today's outing at Sunset Hills Vineyard has been postponed due to the weather forecast. It will be rescheduled soon!
