Salt & Light – Letter Writing to Prisoners

You can spread light and hope to those without a voice who are in prison by creating and maintaining an ongoing relationship with inmates through cards and letters. Relationships are based on first names only and letters are sent to and from Crossroads.

When: Available anytime.

Where: Letters are picked up and dropped off at Crossroads building (43454 Crossroads Dr.)

“Many of you have heard my story about how helpless we felt when our teenage grandson spent a couple of years in jail. It was during those visits to him that led me to writing letters to other inmates.” – Jean

Kathy Mackrell

I grew up in Vermont and graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Animal Science.  I have been married to my husband Bill for 32 years. We have two grown daughters Allison & Christine. Both attended HOPE Preschool. Our family started attending Crossroads 20 years ago, the same year I started working here. My family and I are avid Washington Capitals fans and attend games whenever possible.

Something I am trying to get better at:Being in the moment and enjoying what is going on around me as it is happening.

A song I know by heart:I know most songs by the Avett Brothers by heart and would love to hang out with them and their families for one day or more if they will have me!

My favorite Bible verse:Psalm 118:24 – This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
